Charles Rutledge was born on April 12, 1927 in Richardson, TX. He graduated from Richardson High School in 1943 as Salutatorian. He attended the Engineering School of the University of Texas, Austin and joined the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and the American Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
At eighteen, he volunteered to join the United States Navy. At the end of World War II, he received an honorable discharge for two years of service. He returned to the University of Texas and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1947 and a...

Charles Rutledge was born on April 12, 1927 in Richardson, TX. He graduated from Richardson High School in 1943 as Salutatorian. He attended the Engineering School of the University of Texas, Austin and joined the Kappa Sigma Fraternity and the American Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers.
At eighteen, he volunteered to join the United States Navy. At the end of World War II, he received an honorable discharge for two years of service. He returned to the University of Texas and earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1947 and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business Administration in 1949. He went to work for the Transformer Division of the General Electric Company in Pittsfield, MA. He initially worked in engineering and later in sales and marketing. While in Pittsfield, Charlie fell in love with Molly Potochnik, and they married on May 21, 1955. They moved to Rome in 1956 when General Electric opened a new transformer factory there. In addition to raising his family in Rome, Charlie was active in his church. He was a member of St. Peter's Episcopal Church, serving four terms on the Vestry and holding positions as Junior Warden in 1971 and Senior Warden in 1977. In later years he served on the committee of ushers. Charlie's favorite hobbies were tennis and genealogy.
Charlie is survived by his wife Molly, four sons, four daughters-in-law, two grandsons, and four granddaughters. Son Dan Rutledge, along with his wife Laura and daughter Sydney, lives in Beverly, MA. Son Brad, along with his wife Jennifer and sons David and Steven, lives in Pittsford, NY. Son Greg, along with his wife Marcia and daughter Katherine, lives in West Newton, MA. Son Chris, along with his wife Theone and daughters Sarah and Jessica, lives in Atlanta, GA. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Frank Potochnik and Frank's wife Dottie who live in Schenectady, NY.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association, Georgia Chapter, 41 Perimeter Center East, Suite 550, Atlanta, GA 30346 or to St. Peter's Church.
The family would like to extend special thanks to the staff of Fifth Ave Healthcare for their kindness and loving care.
A memorial service and reception will be held on Saturday, February 3rd at 2:00 pm at St. Peter's Episcopal Church.
